This post was created in collaboration with Moroccanoil. All opinions are my own.
Since I was a kid I’ve been a huge fan of long and healthy hair. But I have to be honest, I never took care of my hair the way I do now. Spending too much time in the sun, brushing my hair when it’s wet, and the overuse of hot tools are just a few reasons I’ve experienced split ends in the past.
Almost every single one of us has to deal with them, but I’m happy to say that there are ways to prevent them. While many of us simply decide to get a drastic haircut, there are plenty of tips for repairing and preventing split ends.
Just keep scrolling for a few simple ways to repair your hair the easy and right way…
HOW TO AVOID SPLIT ENDS
Use the right shampoo
Use a shampoo that is paraben-free. Stay away from sulfates as much as possible, as those ingredients are drying to the hair. Instead, use something that is a gently cleansing with moisturizing formula like Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo. It will keep your hair hydrated, smooth, and smelling delicious!
Condition your ends
Make sure to ALWAYS apply conditioner directly to the ends of your hair, and then give it a couple of minutes to soak in. I tend to avoid putting conditioner directly onto my roots, too. I notice that when I do, my hair tends to look dirty faster.
Argan oil, found in Moroccanoil Hydrating Conditioner will make your dry ends feel softer and silkier because it’s rich in fatty acids. The hydration will also help prevent split end causing breakage.
Limit the use of hot styling tools
Any type of hair styling tool that uses heat to treat your hair will be damaging. I know we all love to use that straightener or curling iron to get the perfect hairstyle. But you can also try experimenting with different hairstyles that don’t call for a sleek look. Style it with a little sea salt spray to add texture and rock those fabulous beachy waves!
Use leave-in conditioner
In case you decide to use that hot styling tool, I’d recommend using a high quality leave-in conditioner. This will add extra protection that stays on strands as you heat-style and go about your day. Try Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, which will add shine and definition with a soft hold. It will also help clean up your split ends a bit.
Use a split end mender to prevent splitting
I love using split end treatments! I think they are perfect when you’re not ready to cut off your hair or you simply don’t have the time! (my case most of the time)
This Moroccanoil Mending Infusion has made my hair appear smoother, fuller, and healthier, with ends that look to be freshly cut! What I like the most about this beauty find is that it reduces visible signs of damaged hair—such as frayed ends, dryness and color damage—while taming frizz and preventing further damage. And since I dye my hair every month, this infusion has become a must have in my hair care routine!
Get a trim regularly.
OK, I’ll be honest with you. This one is very hard for me to follow and I’ve made a promise to my hair stylist to be visiting her more often this New Year!
I have to admit that the longer I wait to trim, the greater the chance I have split ends. If growing a healthier hair is a priority for you too, I’d recommend getting a haircut every eight to ten weeks.
Use a wide-tooth comb
I’ve been doing this religiously since I was teenager. I feel that it’s the only way I don’t lose extra strands after washing my hair. Since wet hair is more delicate using a regular brush might cause breakage.
Use argan oil
Using argan oil is a quick and easy solution that besides conditioning it will help you avoid the most fragile split ends.
If you’ve been following me for a while you might know I’ve been using Moroccanoil Treatment for a few months already and it’s one of my beauty must – haves! I love it because it keeps my hair tangle- free and boosts my hair shine while still leaving it silky smooth!
